Trained by the Upledger Institute
With its origins in Cranial Osteopathy, Craniosacral Therapy, developed by Dr. John Upledger, centers its approach on the philosophy that there is a central rhythm to the body that is deep, wise, and fundamentally regulatory. Unlike the rhythms in the body which react and respond to the outside world (the cardiovascular and respiratory rhythms, influenced by the push-pull of our autonomic nervous system) the craniosacral rhythm, generated by the flow of cerebrospinal fluid from the cranium to the sacrum through the spinal cord, is self-regulating. Craniosacral Therapy aims to gently release any restrictions in the total body system which inhibit the natural flow of cerebrospinal fluid and the craniosacral rhythm, whether directly through gentle, subtle manipulation of bone alignment, or indirectly through light-touch release of the fascia network throughout the body, to return the system to its natural balance. Similar to the philosophies of Polarity Therapy and Reiki, Cranosacral Therapy holds a central concept that when the total system is restored to its natural alignment and rhythms, a state of inherent balance can be achieved and eventually self-governed.
Interacting with the flow of energy and fluid around the brain and spinal cord, Craniosacral Therapy can serve as a deep restorative practice for the nervous system. It can assist us in releasing, unwinding and returning a state of nurtured center.
